MAINTENANCE PERSON JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Job Title:                     Maintenance Personnel

Terms:                         Part time, average of 8 hours/week, flexible schedule

Salary range:               $700-800 paid the last Friday of each month (exempt)

Reports to:                  Parish Priest

 

About the role:            The Maintenance Person performs light upkeep of the church buildings and grounds, as well as some sacristan duties. The maintenance person will keep an eye out for things that need repair beyond their abilities and will bring it to the attention of Parish Council. In addition to the detailed duties listed in this job description, the maintenance person will perform other duties as assigned. 

 

Responsibilities:         Parish House

1. Change salt in softener when needed.
2. Take recyclables and garbage out for the bi-weekly pick up.

 

Church

1. Unlock church doors before Mass, lock up after Mass.
2. Each week vacuum the carpet in the pew area and entrance.
3. Sweep floors under pews when needed.
4. Each week change the vigil light candle and sanctuary light. 
5. Change the altar candles as needed.
6. Make repairs as needed to kneelers, pews, etc.
7. Put out new missalettes when needed.
8. Fill holy water each week.
9. Take garbage out for the bi-weekly pick up.
10. Prepare church for Holy Days, funerals and special occasions, such as:
    1. Put out palms on Palm Sunday.
    2. Take out ashes on Ash Wednesday.
    3. Put out a small rug for Healing Mass.

 

Basement

1. Sweep and wash floors when needed.
2. Take out garbages.
3. Vacuum when needed.
4. Clean bathrooms when needed.

 

 

 

Outside

1. Salt steps and sidewalks when needed.
2. Shovel on Mass days when plowers don’t come.

 

Requirements:             General handyman knowledge, ability to work on your own, ability to work on your feet, ability to lift 40 pounds. All employees must maintain Safe Environment Certification, which includes a background check, following a Code of Conduct, and online training.
